Add in the fact that Chihiro needs to get a job from Yubaba, the bathhouse’s greedy owner, and we have the quintessential set-up for America’s obsession with the power of the individual. Yet, those are the traits that make her more relatable. Instead, she’s easily frightened, unconfident at times, and cries when overwhelmed.
